The PCA/ACA provides a venue for those who are serious students of popular culture or American culture writ large, whether they are academic professionals or independent scholars, in order for them to come together and share interests and expertise in a supportive environment. The PCA/ACA sponsors two major journals, the Journal of Popular Culture and the Journal of American Culture. The PCA/ACA also sponsors an Endowment dedicated to supporting research and scholarly travel.
The PCA/ACA uses the term popular culture in its broadest possible sense in order to be inclusive of the ever-changing worldwide cultural landscape. The lists of subject area and area chairs you will find listed on other pages of our website illustrate the breadth of the term’s reach and demonstrate its inclusiveness. At the same time, the association is always looking to identify and celebrate new areas of study within the fields of popular culture and American culture studies.
We encourage you to explore this site in detail to learn more about the PCA/ACA. We hope you will consider our journals as principal resources for your research in popular and American culture. We invite you to attend our national conference, held annually in a major U.S. city. We also affiliate with many regional popular culture and related associations, most of whom sponsor annual meetings and/or publications as well. Read about the opportunities provided by our Endowment. If you click on the Subject Areas and Chairs menu at left for links to “Calls for Papers” for each area, you can quickly determine where your specific interest might fit.( Let us know if you do not find an area which seems to fit your specific work. And you can still submit your conference proposals on line at http:ncp.pcaaca.org.)
We are a vibrant, welcoming, and inclusive academic organization. We encourage communication with prospective members. If you have questions, comments, or suggestions, please address them to our Executive Directors or to any of the Board Members listed on our leadership team page. I look forward to hearing from you and hope to meet many of you at our annual meetings!
