What is this area about?
BDSM/Kink/Fetish Studies Area of the Popular Culture Association
offers a venue for scholars from acrossthe country to share research
& exchange ideas in this growing field of scholarship, exploring topics
related to BDSM/Kink/Fetish in popular culture, past and present.
What are we looking for?
We are interested in proposals for single or co-authored papers,
presentations, “expert” panels (on a particular topic or issue), as well
as participants in a variety of less conventional scholarly interactions
including roundtable discussions, poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction,
or a book chapter.
Presentations are open to all genres, media, countries, eras, etc.
Suggested topics include but are not limited to:
Education Play (pony, race, etc.)
Feminism Sex work

BDSM/Kink/Fetish Studies Area has teamed with Eros,
Pornography & Popular Culture for special panel presentations.
The papers submitted for this panel need to be focused on the intersection o
f pornography and BDSM.
The Eros, Pornography & Popular Culture Area Chair is Ken Muir.
We are co-chairs of this special panel.
**SPECIAL FOR 2015**
BDSM has also teamed with Celebrity & Popular Culture for special panel
presentations. The papers submitted for this panel need to be focused on the
intersection of Celebrities and BDSM.
The Celebrity Studies Area Chair is Michael Brody. We are co-chairs of this special panel.
You mentioned Creative Pieces?
These panels will showcase your creative talents in poetry and/or fiction of any style focusing on themes of BDSM/Kink/Fetish.
Nonfiction is welcome as it relates to BDSM/Kink/Fetish in Popular Culture or Real Life.
Book chapters are welcome from recently published/forth¬coming or unpublished work.
What sort of formats are acceptable?
Multimedia, PowerPoint, or discussion/readings. Feel free to suggest other formats/methods that you would feel best conveys your subject matter.
Who can submit/present?
Proposals may come from individual faculty, undergraduate or gradu¬ate students, professionals, independent scholars, and/or individuals within the lifestyle. Presenters from any appropriate disciplinary or interdisciplinary perspectives are welcome.
What do I need to submit?
All Panel presentation/paper topics: 100-200 word abstract/proposal & short introductory biography.
Nota bene: Presentations should be developed for a 15-minute reading.
Creative panels: 3 sample poems OR 1-2 short story samples OR 5-10 double-spaced sample pages of nonfiction or chapter. Also, everyone please include a brief statement about your work/research & short introductory biography.
Nota bene: You have 15-18 minutes in which to read your work. You may read your sample poetry, as well as any poetry previously published or unpublished.
Where do I submit?
Items must be submitted through the PCA database, http://ncp.pcaaca.org/. The Association requires pro-posals be submitted to only one subject area at a time.
