H-PCAACA Discussion List

Membership, Registration, and Hotel Reservation

2008 PCA/ACA Conference, San Francisco

To attend the conference, do theses three important things:

1) become a member of the PCA/ACA

2) register for the Conference

3) make hotel arrangements.

1) BECOME A MEMBER OF THE PCA/ACA

To attend the national conference and to give papers, individuals must be a member of the PCA or ACA or both for 2008-09. Because the Blackwell Company publishes the organizations two journals, the Journal of Popular Culture and the Journal of American Culture, membership applications go to that company.

To join, simply click on the link for journal to which you would like to subscribe. Both websites allow you to choose to receive both journals. You will be paying (either by check or credit card) directly to Blackwell Publishing.

To join the Journal of Popular Culture, click here [goes to http://www.blackwellpublishing.com/memb.asp?ref=0022-3840

For the Journal of American Culture, click here [goes to http://www.blackwellpublishing.com/memb.asp?ref=1542-7331

At the Conference: You may also become a member of the organization and register for the conference at the conference itself. Please note, however, that the registration increases $50 after February 15, 2008.

3) MAKE HOTEL ARRANGEMENTS

As of February 28, 2008

Our room agreement with the San Francisco Marriott expired on February 18th as planned.  Usually, rooms are still available at this late date, but we have had much higher demand than in previous years.  In fact, we increased the PCA/ACA room block by 66%.  The hotel is now basically filled.

For those still looking for rooms, find below the phone numbers for a few of the hotels close to the Marriott--a block or two in most cases. I do not know if rooms are available at these hotels. The list below should, however, give you some options for finding a place to stay.

The prices ranges listed below come from the American Automobile Association's (AAA) travel guide for San Francisco. All of the hotels listed below were recommended by the AAA travel guide, an organization that I trust to choose reputable hotels.

You will probably want to first make sure that a room has not opened up at the San Francisco Marriott, since cancellations will make rooms available off and on.
