The Marshall Fishwick Travel Grant to Popular Culture Studies/American Culture Studies Research Collections

For 2008, the Endowment Board has decided to award 3 grants @ $750 each. The grant is named for the late Marshall Fishwick, one of the pioneers in the study of Popular Culture Studies and American Culture Studies who was also one of the founders of the Popular Culture Association.

This grant is open to both International scholars and United States-based academics. Applicants should complete the application process detailed below and submit it electronically to Michael.Schoenecke@ttu.edu no later than December 15, of the year prior to the national conference. Please note that applicants may apply for only one PCA/ACA grant in any given year.

To be considered for the Fishwick Travel Grant to Collections, individuals must

  1. indicate the identity and location of a specific Popular Culture Studies or American Culture Studies collection and its content.
  2. provide a narrative statement of the overall focus, purpose and research methodology of the project
  3. provide reasons for which on-site research at this collection is needed or desirable in terms of the project
  4. indicate projected outcomes, use or application the research project (book, article(s), completion of dissertation curriculum or course development, exhibit.
  5. include a copy of the applicant's current Curriculum Vitae

Proposals will be evaluated on

  1. quality of the proposed project
  2. extent to which the paper reflects and contributes to the study of Popular Culture Studies and/or American Culture Studies
  3. the proposed outcome and use to which the research will be put. Decisions will be reached by the end of January, and the results communicated electronically.

Successful applicants will receive their check in the mail. All funds must be expended within eighteen months. Recipients will be expected to send a two page statement to the Endowment at the end of their project detailing what has been achieved.

To have a proposal considered, please submit your application and supporting material electronically to Michael.Schoenecke@ttu.edu by no later than December 15, of the year prior to the national conference. Please note that applicants may apply for only one PCA/ACA grant in any given year.
