For 2008, the Endowment Board has decided to award 10 grants @ $500 each. This grant is open to both International scholars and United States-based academics. These travel grants are named after the late Madonna Marsden, a teacher/scholar/writer/editor who was part of the Popular Culture Association and the American Culture Association from their formative years and throughout her career.

Applicants should complete the application process detailed below and submit it electronically to Michael.Schoenecke@ttu.edu no later than December 15, of the year prior to the national conference. Please note that applicants may apply for only one Endowment grant in a given year.

To be considered for the Madonna Marsden Travel Grant, individuals must

  2. include the abstract that was submitted for the national program
  3. write a one page (250 words or fewer) statement discussing
    a) the thesis and scope of the presentation
    b) the extent to which the paper reflects and contributes to the study of Popular Culture and/or American Culture Studies
    c) how this paper will contribute to your future professional goals

Proposals will be evaluated on

  1. quality of the paper's thesis and scope
  2. extent to which the paper reflects and contributes to the study of Popular Culture Studies and/or American Culture Studies
  3. the extent to which the paper reflects a student's future professional goals. Decisions will be reached by the end of January, and the results communicated electronically. Successful applicants will find their award checks in their conference registration packets at the national meeting.
