International Popular Culture Conference Summer 2009

 

Location: Turku, Finland

Dates: 27 July 2009 through 31 July 2009

Conference sessions scheduled for Monday, Wednesday, and Friday (27,

29, 31 July) with site-seeing excursions and local tourism on Tuesday 

and Thursday (28 and 30 July).

71 Euros/single room/per night 

84 Euros/twin room/per night (breakfast included.

Rate applicable for Sunday, 26 July.

 

Conference Registration: $350 (includes lunches on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday as well as morning and afternoon taste and drinks breaks; opening conference reception; excursion on Tuesday; and Conference dinner).                                                             

 

About Turku:  Turku is the oldest city in Finland, dating to 1229. The first Finnish university, the Royal Academy of Turku, was established in 1640. Historically, Turku has been a center of trade, culture, science, and Commerce since the Middle Ages. Turku Castle was built in the 1280s, and the Turku archipelago is a unique configuration of more than 20,000 islands and Islets. There is a Popular Culture Studies Center at the University, headed By Professor Hannu Salmi, and the opening reception will be held at the University.                                                               

                                                                                               

 

Deadline for Proposals: April 19, 2009 (one week past the close of the National PCA/ACA Meeting in New Orleans).

Proposals: The proposal should be 300-350 words in length with a title and full identification and contact information. Proposals will be reviewed and accepted for presentation as they are submitted.

Proposals on all popular culture topics and subjects from any time period and any

place(s) welcomed. The conference theme is "The Wide World of Popular Culture," and topics and subjects should be treated and considered at least in part by an international or comparative dimension.
