Black Popular Culture-Special Topics

Popular Culture Association (PCA) National Conference June 2-5, 2021

 

The focus of this special topics area is to critically examine the definitions and development of Black Popular Culture from the early beginning of minstrelsy performances to the images and people we come in contact with on a daily basis—especially those images that are reflected in American media. Paper/panel presentations will draw upon theories and concepts in media studies, cultural studies, and discussions pertaining to the construct of Black popular cultural texts within (but not limited to) television programming, Black Comics, content produced for digital distribution (e.g., Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, and YouTube), Films, Black Exploitation films, literature, music, poetry (spoken word), and fashion (style).

 

All paper topics will be considered. Please submit an abstract online of no more than 250 words to: http:/www.pcaaca.org

Virtual Conference

 

All presenters must be current, paid members of the PCA and registered for the conference. Non-presenters who attend the full conference must also pay membership fees.
