The Cemeteries and Gravemarkers Area of the Popular Culture Association is seeking proposals for individual papers, thematic panels, and roundtables for the PCA Annual Meeting. Sessions are scheduled in periods of 1:30, with four speakers per session. Proposals may be related to death studies topics including (but not limited to):
- Cemeteries and gravemarkers history, iconography, rhetoric, and personalization
- Rituals, memorialization, mourning practices, and funeral customs
- Social and societal death conceptions (e.g., medicalization of death)
- Death in popular culture
- Funeral industry
- Cyberthanatology
Scholars, graduate students, and working professionals are encouraged to submit. Abstracts should be 150 - 250 words (including presentation title) and be submitted through PCA website (see link below).
