Call for papers: 


The SPORTS AREA of the Popular Culture Association and the American Culture Association invites proposals for individual or panel presentations at the annual meeting of



April 17 – April 20, 2019

Wardman Park Marriott, Washington D.C.


Presentations related to sporting events, venues, and teams, past and present, in our nation’s capital and the surrounding region are especially encouraged.  Proposals about sports and electoral politics or the Supreme Court, sports and political expression, and sports and gender, are also invited.

But topics on all areas of sports (history, literature, film,  ethics, media, technology, sociology, current issues, etc.) are welcomed.

Presentations should be completed within twenty minutes and should stimulate audience questions and discussion. Presentations utilizing various media are especially welcomed. Panel proposals of 4 speakers and/or discussion panels of 4-6 participants each are also encouraged.

The deadline for a 250-word abstract is October 1, 2018. Inquiries about possible papers or proposals for sessions can be directed to either of the area co-chairs listed below. Presentation at the conference requires current membership in the PCA or the ACA.

All proposals and paper submissions should be sent electronically through the PCA Database (http://conference.pcaaca.org).

If your paper is accepted, you will receive an acceptance letter, including information related to membership, registration, and hotel accommodations.
