PCA 2026 is fast approaching, and that means a flurry of preparation activity for many of us: verifying reservations, submitting absence forms, covering classes, putting the final touches on presentations, packing for the trip, etc.

I'm looking forward to seeing you at PCA for our panels in Communication and Digital Culture. Our panels are all on Thursday and Friday this year - and will conclude with a wrap-up Roundtable on Thursday afternoon. (Schedule for our area is attached.)

One thing you might do is to announce your presentation independently via social media - with appropriate @'s and #'s. You may attract some conference attendees with your topic and title that might otherwise have missed the opportunity to benefit from your presentation. I'm attaching an idea I'm tinkering with to post on the socials, but will prob refine. When possible, tag PCA in your posts.

See you in Atlanta!

You probably know that the special Early Bird registration rate ends on December 31 - so I won't bother mentioning it. (If you had "Paralipsis" on your rhetorical scorecard, congrats!)
But I DO want to say THANK YOU to all those who submitted proposals. I think our 2026 slate of presentations is going to be AWESOME.
We will release the first draft of our panels soon - so get registered and watch this space.
Look forward to seeing you in Atlanta!

Almost Time to hit the PANIC BUTTON of INSPIRATION!

Dear Comm & Digital Culture Friends,

Just a reminder that it is just about time to hit the "Motivational Panic" button of inspiration to submit your proposal for PCA 2025! Deadline is November 30 - so... yep.

I'm including an ad you can share on your socials or in your groups, as well as the CFP below.

Along with our normal Fall term crunches, we've had pretty big institutional changes in my "day job," so I'm right there with you if you feel challenged for time. Do your best and get your proposal in as soon as you can. I'm looking forward to hearing from you!

“I’m not a Robot: Being Human in the Digital World”
We are witnessing digital mediation of the human experience at an increasingly rapid pace. From communication to production, and from community to consumption, digital media has changed our human practices in both expansive and reductive ways; digital culture is shaping the human of the 21st-century. To use recent discourse around the usage of generative A.I. products as an example, how do machine learning technologies complicate human identification and interrupt human (pedagogical, economic, epistemic) processes? The Communication and Digital Culture Area of Popular Culture Association is seeking submissions for presentations dealing with the effects of digital media on “being human.”
Topics for presentations and panels on “being human” might include:
Autonomy, Creativity, Privacy, Community, Conflict, Ethics, Love, Trust, Art, Work, Intellectual Property, Skills, Vocation, Education, Laws, etc.

Holy Guacamole - What a Slate of Presentations! (and a little secret)

The response to our Area CFP has brought in what promises to produce one of Conference History's best sets of panels. Wait until you see the lineup of presentations.
I'm genuinely impressed and excited, which is a lot to say for a professor amid end-of-term grading, committee work, etc. - but it's true. Wow. Thank you to all who submitted!

The little secret is that the submission acceptance door didn't exactly slam shut. So... I wouldn't dawdle, but if another submission or two slipped in, I would probably give it a look.
Word to the wise. Spread the word.

Thanks again - those who submitted will have received my correspondence via email. If you have questions, let me know.

I'm looking forward to hearing these great presentations in Chicago!

Most of you are good academic colleagues who will submit a proposal this month. Just like I will. You know, because, grades, advising, research, class prep, committees, etc.

It's cool. But keep in mind the deadline is November 30. Also, remember to save a little money via early bird registration before Dec. 31. Probably a good idea to reserve your room soon, too!

Anyways, I'm glad you've joined our area group! I hope to see each of you in Chicago in the Spring. I look forward to reading your proposals.

Would you pass along the news on your social media groups, network emails, etc. to any interested in research related to our CFP? You can use the attached graphic to promote our area's Call for Presentations.

Happy November!

BTW - how's everyone doing? It has been a wild ride at my University since we were together in San Antonio, but I'm still standing!

Thanks all - look forward to seeing you in Chicago!
