Popular Culture Association (PCA) National Conference

 

Women’s Studies Area

 

The Popular Culture Association / American Culture Association Women’s Studies area invites submissions for individual papers and for complete panels for its forthcoming national conference. 

 

You must be a member of the PCA to submit a Proposal.

 

We welcome papers and panels on any facet of popular culture rel ating to the study of women and gender as well as topics related to issues of feminism, feminist theory, and feminist popular culture.  We are particularly interested in papers and panels that include but are not limited to the following topics :

 
  • Women’s participation in, and creation of, literary works and print culture

  • Women’s involvement as consumers and producers of film and television culture, and representations of women within television and film

  • Women as the subjects of, audiences for, and responders to advertising

  • Women’s engagement with popular music as artists, consumers, and fans

  • Women’s engagement with social media and their work as content creators and cultural critics

  • Women’s roles in protest movements and their influence on popular culture

  • Representation and portrayal of feminism in film, literature, and television

  • The impact of #MeToo and sexual and gender violence

 

Submission Requirements

To have your proposal/abstract considered for presentation, please submit your proposal/abstract of approximately 250 words and a 50-word biography through the Popular Culture Association Conference Website.  We also welcome complete panel proposals of 3-4 people.

 

All presenters must be current, paid members of the PCA and fully registered for the conference in compliance with deadlines established by PCA.

  • Travel Grant Decisions / Notifications - Jan. 31, 2026
  • Regular Registration Ends for Presenters - Jan. 31, 2026
  • Late Registration Starts for Presenters - Feb. 1, 2026
  • Preliminary Program draft available - Feb. 6, 2026

 

Those Presenters Not Registered by Feb. 15 Will be Dropped from the Program
