NOMINATE TODAY!Description This award honors bell hooks, the renowned professor, feminist scholar, and social activist, who taught at a number of institutions, including the University of Southern California, Stanford, Yale, and The City College of New York, before becoming a Distinguished Professor in Residence at Berea College in Kentucky. One of the most influential scholars of her generation, hooks has written more than thirty books and contributed articles to Time, Ms., and Essence magazine, among others. Her work centers on dismantling systems of oppression with the distinct goals of uplifting members of historically marginalized populations and striving for social justice, all while teaching acceptance, compassion, and love. bell hooks’ work went beyond her written scholarship and into the community, through teaching and service, in an effort to make the world a better place. This award recognizes a member of the Popular Culture Association for consistent and outstanding engagement over the last five years in traditional and other types of work that exemplify hooks’ principles in at least two of the following areas:
