Call for Papers
The Cemeteries and Gravemarkers Area of the Popular Culture Association is renewing itself and changing its name to Death, Dying, & Funerary Studies. The area is seeking proposals for individual papers, thematic panels, and roundtables for the PCA Annual Meeting.
We are especially welcoming of any Atlanta thematic panels and roundtables proposals.
Proposals may be related to death studies topics including (but not limited to):
· Cemeteries and gravemarkers history, iconography, rhetoric, and personalization
· Rituals, memorialization, mourning practices, and funeral customs
· Social and societal death conceptions (e.g., medicalization of death, attitudes, fear of death)
· Death in popular culture
· Funeral industry
· Cyberthanatology
Scholars, graduate students, and working professionals are encouraged to submit. Abstracts should be 150 - 250 words (including presentation title) and be submitted through PCA website. Thematic panel and roundtables propositions should also be sent by email to the Area chair (contact info listed below).
Sessions are scheduled in periods of 1:30, with approximately four speakers per session. Presenters have 15-20 minutes to present their paper.
