Call for Papers
The Folklore Area of the Popular Culture Association is considering proposals for individual papers or organized panels related to Folklore Studies for the 2026 Popular Culture Association Conference to be held in Atlanta, Georgia, April 8-11, 2026.
Sessions are typically scheduled in 1½ hour slots, with four papers per standard session. Presentations should not exceed 15 minutes.
As always, proposals addressing any topic related to folklore or folklore studies -- from both inside and outside of the United States -- are welcome. Topics may include, but are not limited, to the following:
Folklore in Popular Culture/Folklore as Popular Culture
Folklore and digital media
Influence of folklore on other forms (literature, film, music, etc.)
Folklore and Religion
Folklore and Material Culture
Differences between oral and literary sources of tradition
Folklore and Gender
Folklore and children
Uses of folklore
Illustrators/illustrations of and in folklore
Folklore and memory/memory studies
Symbolism in folklore
The relationship between folklore studies and other fields (anthropology, literary studies, etc.)
For individual papers, please submit a title and 300-word (max word count) abstract, and follow the PCA’s submission guidelines: Submission Guidelines - Popular Culture Association. Fully organized panel sessions are welcome; those interested should contact the area chair via email prior to submitting. The conference will take place April 8-11, 2026 in Atlanta, Georgia; more information is available here: Popular Culture Association.
