Welcome to the Poetry Studies & Creative Poetry Area community! We’re so happy you’re here, and we want you take full advantage of the opportunities our new platform provides. Please read over the code of conduct so we can continue to ensure a safe and supportive space for all. Thank you for your dedication to the Popular Culture Association!
Call For Papers
The Poetry Studies & Creative Poetry Area invites proposals from two kinds of panelists: those reading original poetry (Creative Poetry) and those delivering short papers on some aspect of poetry (Poetry Studies).
We welcome submissions from students, scholars, and poets of all backgrounds: undergraduates, retirees, academics, independent scholars, and anyone who has poems and/or discussions of poetry to share in our conference setting are invited to submit!
Creative Poetry:
Panelists will have 15 minutes each to present their own work. There will be time at the end of the session for questions and interaction with the audience. Please submit an abstract that describes your project along with 3 sample poems.
(Please submit your abstract through the PCA system and then submit your sample poems as an attachment here: https://forms.gle/SsdztT9kmNbJnmX87.)
Poetry Studies: Panelists may present papers on poets or poetry. Subject matter is open. Discussions of poetry as popular culture or poetry as it intersects with other aspects of popular culture are especially welcome. Panelists will have 15 minutes each, and the session will end with a brief question and answer time.
Submission requirements
: Please include your proposal’s title (something that will grab attention in the program) and an abstract of no more than 250 words. Please proofread closely, as this text will become part of the program if your proposal is selected.
For creative proposals only, also submit an attachment of 3 sample poems in 1 document using this form (
https://forms.gle/SsdztT9kmNbJnmX87). You may submit only 1 proposal to 1 area. [Exception: Those who submit a proposal of creative work may also submit a paper proposal to this area or to another subject area.]
Do not email your proposal; only proposals submitted to the online system will be considered.(For creative proposals, please submit your title and abstract to the online system first, and then submit your poetry sample to the area chairs as an attachment, using the linked form. Do not paste the text of your sample poems into your abstract.)
To propose a complete panel, each presenter must submit individually in the online system, and the panel chair should email both of the area chairs, Drs. Katie Manning and Billie R. Tadros, with the proposed session title and a complete list of participants’ names.
